CEO, DGC Group Limited
Deepak Veerasamy is a highly regarded professional in the Telecommunication, Utility, Security as well as IT industry. He was born in South Africa and is of Indian descent. He originally studied for a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical), but from the outset was drawn towards technology. He quickly moved up the ranks in IT and at just the age of 21 was the Technical Manager for a large IT Corp (Vaal Triangle Region) in South Africa.
He immigrated to New Zealand a few years later in 1999 and was originally hired to do y2k compliance testing, but within a couple of years was back into the role of Technical Manager for a local company in Auckland.
He then started his own IT consulting business. This business grew from strength to strength and eventually, a security arm was added to his portfolio of businesses.
He then decided he needed to spend more time with his young family and opted to work as the CTO for one of his clients in Taupo, this being on the only NZ owned satellite-based ISP, targeted at providing broadband to rural NZ. This was an amazing opportunity, allowing him to gain invaluable experience within the rural sector.
Following this adventure, he moved to Whangarei to start an FTTx Telco involved with the initial UFB rollout and the 210km Auckland to Whangarei cable.
His technical expertise didn’t go unnoticed and he was headhunted by Northpower to bring his skills to their team. He took up the opportunity as the Technical Manager / IP Network Architect where he spent 6+ years driving technology and security initiatives throughout the business. As a result, Northpower was recognised both locally and internationally for innovation brought by him and his team. His skill set was very much in demand and he was recruited to consult to other organisations globally, who were needed his type of skills.
By this time the children had grown to a stage where he and his wife felt it was time to move back to a larger economy. They relocated to Auckland where Deepak led the Datacom Cyber Security practice in his position as the Practice Manager – Cyber Security. He has since moved back into consulting to business throughout the world in relation to Information Technology, Information Security, Utility and Telecommunications – implementation, operation and strategy.
Deepak has kept retraining to keep himself at the cutting edge with technology by collecting a conglomerate of industry-specific certification over the last 25 years and is currently studying for his MBA.
