Associate Head of School – IT and ESOL, Weltec
Tony Gan came from Malaysia to study a degree in information science at Victoria University. His first job in New Zealand was with Telecom NZ. He then joined Wanganui Community Polytechnic in 1989 as a computing tutor. Soon after he completed Master in Business Administration at Massey University, he moved to Porirua to take up a marketing manager/business development’s role with Whitireia Polytechnic. He grew the international students’ revenues to over a million when he left to set up Kapiti English Language Academy. The multi-million-dollar success was acknowledged with two Kapiti-Horowhenua business awards, and a Trade NZ export award. Tony went on to manage an Asian magazine, as CE of the Acupuncture School and education manager of the Naturopathic College, before returning to Whanganui in 2015 as Associate Dean at Whanganui UCOL. He started at WelTec in June 21016 as the Associate Head of School for Information Technology and ESOL.
Along the way, Tony picked up qualifications in professional cookery, horticulture, relaxation massage and Te Reo Maori. Tony speaks 4 languages, including Mandarin and English.
