Born in New Zealand, Stephanie identifies herself as a Malaysian Chinese Kiwi whose parents moved to New Zealand in 1988
A youthful reality TV star, energetic presenter and former beauty pageant winner, Stephanie is currently a law student at the University of Auckland with hopes of working in law surrounding social media. In 2014, she graduated with a Bachelor of Communications majoring in journalism at AUT – New Zealand’s most sought-after professional communications degree and also works in promotions at New Zealand’s most popular radio stations such as The Edge, Mai FM, The Rock and More FM.
Her areas of interest span through television, print and radio – industries she finds is a rare career choice with Asians and is determined to help change the norm to ensure a well-represented image of local/international Asians in New Zealand mainstream media. Stephanie is also no stranger at prestigious events in Auckland, namely being the regular english-speaking emcee of those which include members of the Chinese government, international VIP’s or red carpets.
Alongside media, Stephanie is also interested in travel, fashion and beauty. This has led her to document her experiences through her blog, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube where her favourite posts are ones from New Zealand Fashion Week, her worldly travel experiences and her work for designer, Trelise Cooper. She hopes to one day be the host of a show which involves either of those categories.
At 24, Stephanie is also the youngest committee member of the Asian New Zealand Chamber of Commerce – an organisation that is dedicated to drive superior business performance and improve the economic development for Asian businesses in New Zealand.
Stephanie had also previously worked for four years in marketing at Red Bull New Zealand as well as one year in property management/sales marketing at Barfoot & Thompson. She is also a creative entrepreneur who has started a company called “Lai & Co.” which sells flowers and handcrafts organic soaps, scrubs, candles and home diffusers. With this she aims to grow it into an international, ethical company.
When she isn’t working, Stephanie can be found spending quality time with her family and friends, exploring the great outdoors or dancing salsa.
