Jai Basrur

Founder of consulting firm, CGB Consulting Limited

Jai established CGB Consulting Limited in 2007 providing independent corporate finance and strategic advice to business in New Zealand and overseas. Previously Jai was a Partner with Ernst & Young and a Director with Stern Stewart & Co in Singapore. Jai assisted businesses to identify value creating opportunities and develop appropriate strategies for realising such value.

Jai has enabled businesses to grow and enhance their value by structuring them, developing new strategies, making them investment ready and leveraging intellectual property value. He focuses on developing common parameters and criteria, understanding, and commitment within businesses. He enables businesses to develop and implement value creating strategies and organisational arrangements.

Jai has advised businesses in the food and beverage, consumer products, technology, software, infrastructure, manufacturing sectors. Jai has worked with leading corporates, start-up companies, central and local government organisations, listed and unlisted companies. He has previously held senior executive positions in the manufacturing, consumer product, trading and oil and gas sectors. Jai has worked with organisations in New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, South East Asia and India. In South East Asia he has worked in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand and Philippines.   He consequently has a deep understanding of Asian markets, business environments and cultures.

Jai has an undergraduate degree with Physics Honours; an MBA in Finance; is a Chartered Management Accountant; a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries, a CPA, a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand. Jai has published papers on valuation and has presented extensively on valuation, value based management and corporate finance subjects.  Jai is a New Zealand Beachheads Advisor with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise where he enjoys assisting New Zealand businesses to grow in international markets.
